Sliding Patio Doors and Sliding Balcony Door Repairs in London
Up until about 10 to 20 years ago most sliding patio doors that were made for garden Patio’s were mostly made of aluminium. And many of those types of doors still exist. But now increasingly complex systems are being produced especially within the last 10 years or so. A lot of these are now being produced with UPVC as well as aluminium. Another development that has taken place in the past 20 years or so is the increased manufacture and installation of Sliding balcony doors. A lot more high rise blocks are being built with large glass sliding doors. More and more of these balcony doors are being built with what is known as the Tilt and Slide glass door.
As time goes on as time goes on and technology increases, the sheer range of sliding doors and locking mechanisms also expands. Many types of new locking mechanisms for windows and sliding doors are being innovated and created by window manufacturers. This has created many problems for the residents of these properties because most of the sliding balcony doors are very difficult to service.
Tilt and Turn Windows
Tilt and Turn windows are designed to be opened in two different directions. From the side inwards or from the top to be partially tilted in for ventilation purposes.
Whether it is tilt and slide doors or tilt and turn Windows, the systems are becoming increasingly more complicated and tedious to repair. As a result of these increasingly complex locking mechanisms, many locksmiths now find themselves to be at a loss when called in to repair these types of systems. Many times we find that our engineers have been called out to repair one of these types of systems to find that the customer has already previously called out another locksmith but the locksmith through inexperience has managed to further damage the locking mechanism therefore increasing the cost of the job because extra parts have been damaged and now need to be replaced.
One of the reasons is because the majority of locksmiths do not specialise in these types of complicated systems. Most of these Systems are manufactured by companies based abroad, mostly in Germany. Many of these companies have small agents with Limited distribution in the UK. For these reasons it is very difficult for locksmiths and anyone else in the industry who repair these systems to get hold of parts when they break down.
Aluminium Sliding Patio Doors
There are many things that can go wrong with this type of doors once they have aged the problems can be along the bottom of the tracks or with the actual locking mechanism on the side.
If your door is not sliding properly and you feel that it is scraping along the tracks or maybe sticking at points then you should check that there is not any dirt that is jamming the rollers underneath the doors. Sometimes the wheels may have rusted overtime because of weather. In this case if you can see the actual rollers then spraying some lubricant could help.
It may be that the builders have come off the tracks so may need to be pushed back on. This can be in some cases a difficult process. Only attend this method gently. It is important not to apply too much force or the track or talk and get damaged or worse still the class could shatter.
Garden Sliding Glass Door Repairs
In many cases with old sliding aluminium patio doors, the rolling mechanisms beneath over a period of time become damaged by time and weather. And in some of the cases the rollers beneath will need replacing but are not being manufactured any more. In cases such as this our engineers would then have to find a rolling mechanism to replace with that they would have to custom fit.
This is usually a two man job which requires that the sliding door first be removed from the track and then the bottom part of the aluminium frame to be removed so that the actual rollers can be taken out. This is the riskiest part of the repair because the class at this stage can be easily shattered. Once the builders have been taken out and replaced by new ones then the door can be put back together and then back into position.
Damaged Sliding Door Tracks
If the rollers have become jammed then over time they will damage the track by constant scraping and so if not dealt with in time, you will find yourself having to replace the Track adding further cost to you.
